The Estate

Maria Vinci

Maria Vinci is a farm specialized in the production of high-quality Tuscan wines and olive oil.

The estate is located in the Maremma DOC district, in the southern area of Tuscany, more specifically in Capalbio, a medieval village from whose walls you can have a glimpse of the Tyrrhenian sea and the surrounding hills populated by sheeps, cows and “butteri”, mounted herders from this region.

On a cool plateau, about 20 kilometers away from the coast, the estate stretches for 53 hectares, nestled among olive groves, woods and a natural lake – which dilates in winter and dries out in summer – covered with reeds, and a resting place for numerous species of birds such as woodcocks, pheasants and thrushes..

The vineyards

In 2011, the first four hectares of vineyards were planted on a hillside lit until sunset, with stony, clay soil. The bet was Chardonnay: an extremely versatile grape that goes really well with the terroir of the estate.

Nowadays, thanks to the exceptional fertility of the soil and a cool climate even in summer, the estate has many other varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet sauvignon, Cabernet franc, Carmenere, Marcelan, Nero d’Avola, Sangiovese, Sirah and Grenache.

Olive grove

Also in 2011, four hectares of olive groves were planted with varieties such as Frantoio, Leccino, Leccio del Corno and Pendolino.

The Truffle farm
In November 2023, four hectares of wood were transformed into a truffle farm: 2 hectares of “tartufo nero pregiato” and 2 hectares of “nero estivo”.

Company philosophy

Wine is made in the vineyard” is a sentence that fully expresses the lessons learned over the year, besides being the guiding principle of the whole company.

A crop is healthy only when the soil where it grows is healthy: special care towards the land and full respect of the biodiversity are guiding principles of the estate, which is dedicated to organic farming and maintaining nature’s balance.

Planting density, pruning practices, technological equipment adopted both in the fields and in the cellar, manual harvesting and uncompromising selection ensure that each wine brings out the best characteristics of its land.

The winery

In 2024, the construction works of the winery officially began: the beating heart of the company where you can find the whole production and wine aging facilities, the laboratory, the warehouse; but also the administrative and commercial activities, as well as a space for hospitality and the promotion of the territory.

The main goal in designing the winery was to approach the crops, and then the wine, as naturally as possible, following the principles of environmental sustainability. To reach this goal, the building was carved out largely from the slope of the land, in order to blend the new construction with its surroundings, but also to optimize the energy and heating costs by exploiting the natural cooling properties of the earth.

The wine cellar was designed to fully enhance the best nuances of each wine through the sartorial care of every detail: the wine, divided by varietal, ages in French oak barrels, before making the Maria Vinci’s whites and reds.
